Yazidi community – Canberra
The staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Canberra commemorated the tenth anniversary of the genocide committed by the terrorist ISIS gangs against the Yazidi community and all Iraqi components, in the presence of representatives of the Yazidi community and members of the Iraqi community, on Friday morning, 9/8/2024.
Speech by the temporary Acting Ambassador
At the beginning, the temporary Acting AmbassadorÂCounselor Adi Asaad Khammas, delivered a speech in which he touched on the fact that holding this vigil comes in implementation of the directives of His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Fuad Hussein. Accordingly, Khamas explained that the goal is to involve the Iraqi people in commemorating the crimes of ISIS and its mercenaries, especially the genocide against the Yazidis in Sinjar district and its affiliated villages in August 2014. In addition, in his speech, Khamas praised the high spirit of our security forces in their various formations, the Popular Mobilization Forces, the Peshmerga, and the sons of the authentic Arab tribes in defending the homeland and the social fabric. Finally, he touched on the efforts of the Iraqi government to activate the Yazidi Survivors Law No. (8) of 2021, and the important steps taken by the esteemed Council of Representatives by adopting the law, in addition to other measures taken by the Supreme Judicial Council and Iraqi institutions to address this file.
Speech of the representative of the Yazidi community
For his part, the representative of the honorable Yazidi community, Mr. Mohi Khalaf Mohi, delivered a speech in which he touched on the extent of this suffering and its great effects on the members of this community. In addition, Mohi hoped that the government’s efforts would continue to resolve this file and mitigate its repercussions on them. He also thanked the embassy for organizing the memorial vigil, and the community members for their condolences on this painful anniversary.
Reciting Surat Al-Fatihah
At the end of the vigil, the attendees recited Surat Al-Fatihah in memory of the souls of the martyrs of our beloved country and the sons of the honorable Yazidi community.
