A 44-year-old man drove a red Mazda 3 into the car park of the Junction Fair shopping centre on Kenrick Street. Police allege he had to reverse the car before he could enter. They also allege he then hit three posts in a row before colliding with a silver Mercedes sedan as he tried to park. The driver then reversed his car and tried to park again, crashing into the same car a second time, police say. Members of the public stopped the driver and his male passenger and security attended shortly after. The driver gave his details to security and left the shopping centre. Police spotted the Mazda leaving the car park and stopped it on Farquhar Street, where the driver allegedly tested positive for a breathalyser. He was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station for a breathalyser.
