James Johnson, CEO of Football Australia, stated that the organizers of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, set to take place in Australia and New Zealand, are aiming to attract a record-breaking viewership of up to two billion people.

A report published by FIFA in 2019 revealed that the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France drew an audience of 1.12 billion viewers worldwide.

In an interview with the BBC, Johnson remarked, “I think this is a very realistic benchmark. If we reach two billion viewers, that would be double the audience of the France edition… We believe this is an achievable goal.”

He added, “We expect strong viewership in traditional football markets like the UK and Europe. We are in the same time zone as highly populated nations, including China and Indonesia.”

He continued, “We are also very close to the west coast of the United States and India, so we anticipate that many people will adjust their schedules to watch this tournament.”
