
Australian authorities announced on Monday that 120,000 homes in the eastern part of the country are still without electricity due to Cyclone Alfred, which caused widespread power outages two days ago.1 Approximately 310,000 homes in southeastern Queensland and at least 16,000 homes in northeastern New South Wales lost power on Sunday after Alfred swept through the region. Although Cyclone Alfred has weakened to a tropical low, it still brought strong winds to the east coast of Australia, leading to uprooted trees and fallen power lines in southeastern Queensland and northeastern New South Wales.2 On Saturday, the powerful storm Alfred hit areas along the east coast of Australia, accompanied by rain and winds that threatened to cause flooding, after causing power outages for more than 330,000 homes and businesses.3 Tropical Cyclone Alfred, now classified as a tropical low, caused trees and power lines to be uprooted and damaged buildings.
