A woman has been charged with stealing tens of thousands of dollars worth of coins. The coins are special editions of Bluey, the popular children’s TV series. The 27-year-old woman was at her home in Green Valley, southwest of Sydney, when she was arrested by officers from Strike Force Bandit. The arrest took place early this morning, at around 6.55am.
Charges
The woman faces three main charges. These include aggravated breaking and entering to commit a serious criminal offence, as well as disposing of stolen property under $5,000. She was denied bail and is due to appear at Liverpool Local Court later today.
Woman’s role in the incident
It is understood that police will allege in court that the woman was the driver in the alleged break and enter. This charge adds a new dimension to the ongoing investigation. Her arrest comes in the context of a wider coin theft.
Details of the theft
The theft took place on July 12, with 63,000 Bluey $1 coins reported stolen. The coins were limited edition and produced by the Royal Australian Mint. The coins feature unique designs featuring characters from the series.
Previous Arrests
The woman is the third person to be charged in the case. A 47-year-old man was arrested in early August for his alleged role in the theft. A 44-year-old man was arrested two weeks later at a home in Canley Heights.
Detectives allege that the 44-year-old conspired with another man who worked at the warehouse to steal the coins. Police have so far recovered 189 of the stolen coins, and both men have been charged and are still in court.
